Pacha The Mama Llama is a classic story about a mom and her two babies and their journey as they migrate from Peru to Machu Picchu. A classic take that can be passed on for generations to come, with emphasis on the trials that mothers face when trying to keep their children’s best interest at heart. As a mother of two children myself, finding a personal connection to this story wasn’t hard. Although the story is about immigration, it is east to relate to the context overall as hardships that become us, especially when trying to build a life for our children.
Light, inspiring and beautifully executed.
The story, Pacha The Mama Llama is based on the life of the author’s grandmother who set off on her own to provide a better life for her family. While the author’s grandmother did not migrate from Peru, she did however move from Italy to Canada with her two children. I would imagine she had to sacrifice and provide just as Pacha did in the story for her two little ones. The correlation of the story mirroring real life takes a true sense of history and value when you read the book as a mother to my own children today. Whatever personal struggles we face, we face them and many of us carry on for our children.
A true testament to strength and family bonds.
My boys are at the age now where reading bedtime stories no longer phases them much but I made a point to read this story to them simply because I wanted to get an honest reaction from them. Their reaction was not what I expected to be honest, they fully enjoyed the story line and gorgeous illustrations but what got to me was the conversation we had afterwards. They boys really empathized, they found a connection to the characters and felt such love for Pacha, the mother Llama. They were able to connect the dots and told me that they were thankful for all that I do for them. As a mom, those sentiments really hit home. Straight to the heart kind of feelings that you seldom get out of a book. This book will no doubtfully be a classic, one of those stories you keep on your shelf to share with generations to come.
The author, Luigi La Corte wrote this book while traveling for business in 2017 and has taken it on as a project second to his full time job. He has since started working on a second book, which is scheduled to be published in 2021. I look forward to reading his next book with the intention that it will be just as wonderfully thought out and captivating for audiences both young and old alike.
